Dhi Qar Oil Company announced the completion of drilling 17 wells in the Nasiriyah oil field, as part of a project that includes 20 wells to raise the field’s production and enhance the company’s production capabilities.
The Director General of Dhi Qar Oil Company, Engineer Ali Khudair Abbas, said, “The company continues to implement the project of drilling 20 wells in the Nasiriyah field according to the established plan and the specified timetable, with the participation of its technical and engineering cadres in the field.” Abbas added in a statement followed by Al-Mada that “the company has completed drilling 17 wells out of 20 and is drilling two more wells at an accelerated pace,” and added, “It will begin drilling the last well at a later time.”
The Director General of Dhi Qar Oil Company spoke about the entry of some wells into the oil production stage, suggesting that “the rest of the wells will enter production soon.”
Abbas believes that “the oil well drilling project aims to increase the production of the Nasiriyah field, which is one of the most important fields in Dhi Qar Governorate, as well as improving the company’s production performance and supporting the national economy.”
The Director General of Dhi Qar Oil Company praised “the efforts made by the company’s employees and the contracting companies, and the ongoing coordination and cooperation between them, to complete the aforementioned project, despite the challenges and difficult circumstances facing them.”
He continued, "Dhi Qar Oil Company always seeks to develop and modernize its facilities and equipment, implement strategic projects, and apply the latest technologies and international standards in the field of drilling, production, and maintenance, to achieve its desired goals."
He concluded by stressing that “the company will continue to implement its plans and programs for the current year, and work to develop and expand the oil production base in Dhi Qar Governorate.”
The oil well drilling project in the Nasiriyah oil field is being implemented in cooperation between the Iraqi Drilling Company and the American Weather Ford Company.
In mid-August of this year, the Ministry of Oil announced the completion of drilling the Nasiriyah/60 oil well in the Nasiriyah oil field. It stated in a statement received by (Al-Mada) at the time, that “the technical and engineering personnel of the Iraqi Drilling Company completed the drilling operations of the Nasiriyah/60 oil well in Dhi Qar Governorate, with a depth of 2110 meters within the work of the (Mobilized Formation) project for the contract concluded with Dhi Qar Oil Company, which includes Drilling 20 oil wells in the Nasiriyah oil field, in cooperation with Weatherford Oil Services Company.
The statement pointed out that “drilling operations were carried out using the 46 IDC drilling rig with a horsepower of 1,000 horsepower.”
He explained, “The company owns 43 drilling and reclamation rigs, including 30 modern machines with a capacity ranging between 500-3000 horsepower. Its work area extends along the geographical area from north to south.”
Dhi Qar Governorate includes many oil fields, the most prominent of which is the Nasiriyah oil field, which is the largest in the governorate. It is followed in terms of importance by the Gharraf oil field, the Abu Amud (Al-Rafidain) field, and the Sabah field. There is also an exploratory patch bearing the number 10, and this patch is shared between Dhi Qar and Al-Muthanna. It was transferred a few years ago to an oil exploration consortium consisting of the Japanese companies Lukoil and Japex.
The production capacity of the oil fields in Dhi Qar Governorate is more than 250,000 barrels per day, distributed as follows: more than 150,000 barrels from the Gharraf field and 100,000 barrels from the Nasiriyah field. Dhi Qar Oil Company announced, in the last quarter of this year, the continuation of work to raise production rates of associated gas in the Nasiriyah and Gharraf fields from the current 20 million standard cubic feet (mmq) to 200 million standard cubic feet through the contract signed between the Dhi Qar Oil Company and... South with the American company BakerHughes.
It is noteworthy that the local government and the Dhi Qar Oil Company announced in mid-September of last year the launch of work on the associated gas investment project in the Nasiriyah and Al-Gharraf fields, and indicated that General Electric (GE) and Baker Hughes will begin implementing the infrastructure for the project, which has a production capacity of 200 cubic meters of gas. Gas per day, equivalent to 200 million standard cubic feet.
