Shafaq News/ “Green Iraq” Observatory confirmed An environmental affairs specialist said on Saturday that there were violations committed by some candidates for the provincial council elections regarding the instructions issued by the Independent High Electoral Commission and city municipalities to preserve the environment, while Baghdad and Nineveh topped the cities with the most environmental damage from these campaigns.
The Observatory said in a statement, received by Shafaq News Agency, that “its monitoring teams, notification forms, and volunteers in 15 governorates confirmed that all governorates, without exception, have recorded environmental violations since the start of the election campaign,” considering “these violations are a violation of the instructions of the Independent High Electoral Commission and municipalities.” Cities, to preserve the environment and not be affected by electoral propaganda.
The Environmental Observatory explained that “the most prominent violations are trespassing on green spaces and gardens without taking into account the aesthetics of those environmental spaces,” adding, “Placing posters in a way that is contrary to public taste.”
Green Iraq said, “The storms and rains that fell on the capital and the rest of the provinces caused some candidates’ advertisements to be torn up, which led to them falling to the ground and distorting the views of some streets and parks,” explaining that “some of these advertisements are still parked on the ground without being lifted or placed in a place.” “It does not affect people passing by.”
The Observatory explained that the capital, Baghdad, topped these violations, followed by the governorates of Nineveh and Basra, while the governorates of Babylon, Wasit, and Muthanna were the least among the other governorates.
The Observatory called on the political blocs and their candidates to “adhere to the pledge they signed to raise their propaganda within the period specified for them by the Commission, the Secretariat, and other municipalities to restore the views that were distorted due to the spread of electoral images and propaganda during the past 45 days.”
On Saturday morning, electoral centers in all regions and cities of Iraq opened their doors to members of the security forces, displaced persons, and prison inmates to cast their votes in the irregular provincial council elections in the region, with general voting starting next Monday, the eighteenth of this month.
