    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (January 4, 2024), the capital, Baghdad, hosted a conference that discussed ways to pressure and mobilize to pass the controversial “Right to Information” law.
The conference, organized by the "Burj Babel" organization for media development, was held in cooperation with the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, which hosted the conference at its headquarters today, in the presence of a number of representatives, officials and journalists, in addition to members of the organization's team in the provinces, which worked over the past months to organize meetings with... Representatives to mobilize and pressure to approve the law on the right to access to information.
In this context, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani, stressed that “the draft law on the right to access information will push the state towards progress, achieve a transition in all legal and economic aspects, and provide a qualitative opportunity for researchers and the media.”
Al-Mashhadani added, “The efforts made by civil society organizations and journalists to legislate the right to information law guarantees the rights of employees, gives the opportunity to access information and data, stops all suspicions of corruption, and preserves the rights of everyone in the state and society.”
For his part, Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Muhammad Anouz, stressed “the importance of the right to access information and the necessity of regulating this right with a law that guarantees it,” noting that “obtaining it is currently subject to the mood of the employee or the party that has the authority to provide the data.”
It is noteworthy that the Tower of Babel organization had previously prepared and submitted a draft of the law to the Presidency of Parliament, and this coincided with the government sending the draft law to Parliament. It is hoped that several sessions will be held this year to study the two laws and reach a final formula for the purpose of being voted on by the House of Representatives.
