Today, Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Baghdad, the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the general situation and the latest security and political developments in the country were discussed, and the importance of enhancing security and stability, cooperation and coordination in order to meet the requirements and needs of citizens and raise the standard of living and service was emphasized.
Mr. President stressed the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and the necessity of disbursing financial dues to the Kurdistan Region in accordance with the approved budget, and settling the file of salaries of the region’s employees.
It was also stressed the need to continue meetings and consultations between the two sides regarding issues of common interest, and to unify efforts among the political forces to support the government in achieving its program and in a way that preserves Iraq’s sovereignty and independent decision-making.
In turn, the President of the Region reviewed the results of his meetings with the leaders of the political blocs during his current visit to the capital, Baghdad, praising the role of the President of the Republic in bringing the views of the political parties closer together, and the efforts of the President of the Republic to guarantee the rights of all citizens, including the citizens of the Region.
