The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed today, Wednesday, the necessity of “putting an end to the actions of the armed factions,” urging the Iraqi government to “play a fundamental role in protecting the region.”
Nechirvan Barzani said, in an interview with the Saudi “Al-Oraiba” and “Al-Hadath” channels, that the region has “a fear of Baghdad’s inability to protect it,” noting that “the current challenges are more difficult than the ISIS phase, and that the front line has become unknown.”
The President of the Kurdistan Region appreciated “the position of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani,” and urged the Iraqi government to “play a fundamental role in protecting the region.”
He explained that the region will decide the fate of the coalition forces’ presence “within the framework of Iraq and not alone.”
Barzani denied the existence of any relations between the region and Israel, saying: “We do not have any relations with Israel nor any headquarters of the Mossad (Israeli intelligence).”
He stressed that “Iran’s allegations of the presence of Mossad forces in the region are not true,” explaining that Tehran “did not provide any evidence to Baghdad of the presence of Mossad forces in the region.”
He stressed that “the region is not a source of threat to Iran,” and that “the Iranian bombing that caused the killing of civilians cannot be classified as friendship.”
In separate and repeated attacks, Iran and Iraqi armed factions targeted sites in the Kurdistan Region, claiming that they were affiliated with the Israeli Mossad.
Regarding relations with Ankara, the President of the Kurdistan Region said: “We categorically reject the Kurdistan Workers’ Party using our lands against Turkey.”
He stated, “The PKK is a threat to our neighbors, and a major headache for us and Baghdad.
Regarding Baghdad, the head of the region explained, “The federal system in Iraq has not been implemented despite the passage of 20 years.”
He pointed out that the regional government “dealed with complete transparency with Baghdad regarding the revenues file,” considering that the economic situation in the region is “difficult and complex.
