Member of the House of Representatives, Kazem Al-Touki, today, Monday, attributed the failure to choose a replacement for the expelled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, to the continuing political differences within the Sunni component, while he stressed that the Sunni forces have not agreed on a single personality until now.
Al-Touki said in an interview, “The lack of agreement between the forces of the other components on the names nominated for the position of Speaker of Parliament is one of the reasons that also postpone the decision,” noting that “the political forces are awaiting the decision of the Federal Court in order to re-vote or nominate new names.”
He continued, “The seat is reserved for the Sunni component according to quotas, and the rest of the political forces cannot directly interfere in nominating a person or putting forward an initiative to resolve the crisis,” pointing out that “the failure to choose an alternative to the expelled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, is due to the continuation of political differences within the Sunni component.”
Al-Touki stressed during his speech: “Continued intransigence on the part of the responsible parties and failure to submit to the dialogue table will further delay the election of an alternative,” adding that “the Sunni forces have not agreed to nominate a single figure so far.”
The leader of the United Anbar Alliance, Abdul Wahab Al-Bilawi, had suggested in an interview, “The acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, will continue in the position during the coming period,” while he stressed that the scenario of boycotting the voting session on Al-Halbousi’s replacement has become clear from the largest bloc in Parliament after the recent positions.
