    Baghdad today - Erbil
Today, Tuesday (February 20, 2024), member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mohieddin Al-Mazuri, described the recent movements of the terrorist organization ISIS as disturbing, while noting the need for coordination with the international coalition to address the targets.
Al-Mazouri told "Baghdad Today", "The movements of the terrorist organization in the areas of Nineveh, Makhmour, southern Kirkuk, and the outskirts of Diyala are exciting and disturbing, and require the need for concerted efforts to reduce them."
He added, "The organization still poses a threat to a number of regions of the country, so the solution is to increase the level of coordination between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga and to benefit from the expertise of the international coalition at this stage for the purpose of addressing the organization's goals, especially in the areas of security vacuums within the disputed areas extending from Khanaqin to Sinjar.”
On Wednesday (February 14, 2024), security affairs expert Jabbar Yawar revealed security vacuums that are considered the “largest” in Iraq.
Yawar said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “there are security vacuums spread in 140 areas within 5 governorates extending from Khanaqin all the way to the Nineveh region,” indicating that “after the end of the battles with ISIS, the Peshmerga forces withdrew under pressure from the federal forces during the time of the government.” Al-Abadi and forms a line extending from Khanaqin to the Suhaila area on the Syrian border, held by the Peshmerga forces. On the other hand, there is a similar line for the federal forces, but the depth between them reaches 40-50 km in some axes. They form gaps in which there is no security force, and they are also distinguished by their complexity in terms of the terrain.” .
He added, "ISIS exploited these vacuums to spread, hide, train, and launch attacks on the federal forces and the Peshmerga," pointing out that "the federal forces and the Peshmerga launched joint operations in addition to anti-terrorism forces to track down ISIS hideouts and achieved important results, but the threat of the vacuums remained."
Yawar pointed out that “four years ago, a Diwani order was issued to form two joint brigades to deploy in the gaps, and their progress was delayed, but within the government budget, funds were allocated, and the members of the two brigades began training, and they will be under the command of the Ministry of Defense in order to deploy them, but the force is insufficient if it is known that the length of the gaps It extends for a distance of 650 km, which means the need for other brigades to control all areas and end the largest vacuum in the security scene.”
