On Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani discussed with the founder of Lukoil Vagit Alekperov the file of Russian companies operating in Iraq.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that "Al-Sudani received the Chairman of the Russian Federation of Manufacturers and Businessmen Committee, and the founder of Lukoil Company Vagit Alekperov and his accompanying delegation."
The statement added, "During the meeting, the file of Russian companies operating in Iraq was discussed, in light of the visit made by the Prime Minister to Moscow in October of last year."
He pointed out that "the meeting discussed plans to develop the West Qurna and Eridu oil fields in which Lukoil operates, and ways to overcome the obstacles hindering its work, as well as Lukoil's participation in integrated energy projects in Iraq and new licensing rounds."
The Prime Minister made an official visit to Moscow to discuss with the Russian President the situation in the Middle East, as well as ways to develop Russian-Iraqi cooperation.
