The Ministry of Commerce announced a plan to ensure the preparation of food basket items in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, while confirming the existence of tight control over the prices of materials in local markets.
The Ministry’s official spokesman, Muhammad Hanoun, told the official agency, “The Ministry has prepared a plan to ensure the preparation of food basket items in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan,” noting that “the added materials included pasta, starch, vermicelli, and yellow flour.”
He added, “The Ministry’s stores in Baghdad and the governorates are fully prepared and ready to provide Ramadan basket materials, including additives,” noting “work to equip social care families with additives within their basket.”
He continued, "The Ministry's efforts are to pump large quantities of food to marketing centers in Baghdad and the governorates and sell them at cost prices that differ from the prices in local markets."
He explained, “The Ministry was able, in the recent period, to secure food security through the food basket with its seven items, in addition to working to confront challenges and rising prices in the local market.”
Regarding the increase in prices in local markets with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, Hanoun denied, “There is any increase in prices,” noting that “the regulatory agencies are working to audit the markets and verify the prices of food items.”
He continued, “This year is different from the previous year due to the presence of strict supervision to ensure the stability of food prices in the local market.”
