    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
After the continued state of political deadlock in Diyala Governorate to choose a candidate for the position of governor, and the rejection of the settlement candidate proposed by the head of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Hadi Al-Amiri, informed sources revealed to “Baghdad Al-Youm” a direct move by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to resolve matters.
     Baghdad intervention
Today, Thursday (February 22, 2024), an informed source confirms that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani will soon intervene directly to end the political impasse in Diyala.
The source said in an interview with (Baghdad Al-Youm), “Deputies and political elites from multiple titles called on Al-Sudani to sponsor a road map to end the political blockage in Diyala, especially with the failure of its council three times to hold its session and proceed with voting on the position of speaker of the council and his deputy, up to and including the government cabinet.” Governor.”
He explained, "The deep differences between the main parties raise concerns for all the elites, not only in Diyala but even in Baghdad," adding, "This necessitated the intervention of the Sudanese, who has good relations with all the parties influential in shaping the political scene in the province."
He pointed out that "the coming days will witness an expanded meeting of representatives and members of the Diyala Council under the auspices of the Sudanese if they are unable to find any solutions during the coming period," noting that "most members of the Diyala Council support the option of having support from Baghdad in order to continue creating political consensuses that lead to To end the political impasse.”
He noted that "the position of governor is the most prominent node currently, and if it is overcome, the way will be open to ending the selection of positions within a few hours."
    Political pause
Earlier, an informed source told "Baghdad Today", "Political elites from the Coordination Framework, Progress, Sovereignty, Determination, and the rest of the blocs are in constant contact with their lists in Diyala in order to proceed with the formation of the local government and give the green light to hold the session."
He added, "The ball is now in the court of the Sunni forces in putting forward a consensus candidate for the position of President of the Diyala Council, or leaving the matter to a vote in the decision session," pointing out that "Hadi Al-Amiri's decision to change his candidate for the position of governor ended 50% of the governorate's political crisis, which is the most important, but the position remains." The Chairman of the Council is the subject of controversy between two Sunni factions.”
The head of the Badr Organization, Hadi Al-Amiri, had previously proposed a settlement candidate for the position of governor of Diyala in an attempt to end the political dispute in forming the local government in the governorate and the state of division and stagnation occurring in it, while some parties in the governorate expressed their rejection of the candidate.
