Today, Sunday (March 3, 2024), the Diyala Governorate Health Department revealed the overthrow of 13 “black charges” in 2024, in cooperation with citizens.
Diyala Health Media Director Fares Al-Azzawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm,” that “a joint effort by multiple departments was behind the overthrow of a smuggled, unexamined shipment of medicine weighing 40 tons at the northern entrance to Diyala Governorate, which is the 13th shipment that will be overthrown during 2024.”
He added, "The total number of medications seized in black shipments - referring to shipments transporting smuggled medications - amounts to more than 160 tons within a few months," pointing out that "their danger lies in that they are of unknown origin and their repercussions on patients are not known because they include dozens of... The species are under scrutiny and examination.
He pointed out that "half of the black shipments were seized through the cooperation of citizens by calling the hotlines, which provided half of the information behind their seizure on foreign roads in coordination with the joint security teams."
Yesterday, Saturday (March 2, 2024), the National Security Service announced the thwarting of smuggling operations of approximately (40) tons of medicines in Diyala Governorate .
The agency said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that it “received a report confirming the presence of a group of transport vehicles loaded with smuggled medicines coming from the Kurdistan region towards the capital, Baghdad,” indicating that “immediately, after obtaining judicial approvals, a force from our agency in Diyala Governorate began setting an ambush.” In one of the entry controls into the governorate, it led to the seizure of two trailer trucks carrying unregistered and untested medicines . ”
The statement added, "Our detachments also arrested (3) defendants involved in smuggling," noting that "during the initial investigation with the defendants, they confessed to the arrival of other vehicles on the same route, and as a result of that information, the force moved to set up another ambush that toppled two vehicles along with their drivers."
