The fifty-sixth session of the Conference of the Association of Arab Universities will begin tomorrow, Monday, in the capital, Baghdad, at the University of Baghdad for the period (4-5 March 2024), with the participation of more than a hundred Arab academic figures, including university presidents and representatives of Arab scientific organizations.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, told Al-Sabah: Iraq’s hosting of this session is an important milestone in the journey of its educational, scientific and academic institutions because it reflects Baghdad’s keenness to strengthen its pioneering scientific role and its emphasis on the importance of academic cooperation between Arab countries.
Al-Aboudi added that the current session represents a positive opportunity for Iraqi universities to exchange experiences with their Arab counterparts and learn about developments in the academic field, as well as strengthening academic and research cooperation between Arab universities in a way that contributes to raising the level of higher education, especially since the Iraqi Ministry of Education and its institutions adopt a precise procedural path based on... The National Strategy for Education and the government program and ministerial curriculum that provided a climate for improving the environment of higher education and scientific research in the country.
He explained that the agenda of this session was designed according to a scientific vision that covers the various Arab challenges and aspirations in the educational and academic sectors and includes many important topics, including an assessment of the magnitude of the challenges facing higher education in the Arab region and the proposed and proposed ways to enhance academic cooperation between universities, in addition to the sizes of the roles assigned. Arab universities in formulating an Arab academic vision to achieve sustainable Arab development, as well as keeping pace with the knowledge and technical indicator taking place in the world and finding ways to reach advanced stages in the fields of Arab scientific research that serves the sectors of the Arab labor market, not to mention researching the desired mechanisms to improve the quality of Arab higher education.
For his part, the President of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ensaf, said: Twinning university programs and exchanging experiences are among the most important joints and tools for enhancing academic cooperation between Arab universities. We believe that the current session of this conference will contribute significantly to expanding and developing these tools, especially since the serious indicators from all parties will provide an important space for continuing communication and strengthening university twinning programs, and striving to achieve a qualitative level of Arab university partnerships.
He added that the current session will produce joint visions that consider the importance of sustainable development projects. We hope that these visions will contribute to formulating an approach that ensures improving the quality of Arab education and keeping pace with the accelerating requirements that play crucial roles in achieving sustainable development in the Arab region.
In turn, the Ministry’s official spokesman, Dr. Haider Al-Aboudi, pointed out that the quality area and its mechanisms will be present in the topics of the sessions because there is an urgent need to develop and enhance the levels of quality and academic accreditation in Arab universities, adding that this content is being worked on by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in order to develop a common ground that contributes to In adopting harmonized standards for quality and accreditation in the Arab environment in order to raise performance levels
