He added, “The uprising was a continuation of decades of struggle and the product of steadfastness, hard work, and the blood of the people and fighting forces of Kurdistan. It became a new beginning and a new hope in the lives of our people. The people’s enthusiasm against the oppressive and occupying institutions was a very clear message that despite the power of the invaders, the will of the people remained in Live a dignified and free life, always in the hearts of the Kurdish people, and will remain forever.”
He continued, “The achievements of the uprising belong to the people of Kurdistan, and to future generations,” stressing that “the achievements, goals and values of the uprising must remain high, be protected and strengthened, and should not be forgotten in the face of any situation and under any pressure.”
The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party concluded his statement by saying: “Salute to the pure souls of the martyrs of the uprising and all the martyrs of the path to freedom of Kurdistan.”
For his part, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, warned of “threats” that he said were lurking against federalism and the constitutional entity of the region.
Barzani stated in a statement received by (Al-Mada), that “the people of Kurdistan rose up on March 5, 1991, from the city of Rania, the gateway to the uprising, carrying their soul on their hands and not afraid to die for the sake of freedom, thus ending one of the bloodiest eras of injustice and dictatorship. This people will never give up freedom and the sacred goals of the uprising.”
Barzani continued, “The sacred goals of the uprising, which are life, freedom, and democracy, and a secure and advanced society, and in building the present and a better future, and a strong Kurdistan that will be the cradle of coexistence, acceptance of others, and tolerance, can only be achieved through joint action, a unified position, and solidarity.” For his part, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, stressed yesterday, Tuesday, the necessity of preserving and developing the entity of the Kurdistan region, and consolidating the principles of peaceful coexistence, harmony, and humanity rooted in its people.
Masrour Barzani said in a statement yesterday on this occasion, “The March uprising represented the most fruitful stations in the history of Kurdistan. It is a source of pride and pride, and solid sovereignty for our people, and a symbol of unity and cohesion among its various classes, segments, components, forces, and political parties, thus embodying a categorical rejection of injustice, occupation, and subordination. It culminated in a great achievement that culminated in the establishment of the federal entity of the Kurdistan region with its legitimate and constitutional institutions.”
He added, “Today, as we commemorate the March Uprising, it is imperative for everyone, parties, components, and individuals, to come together, united, to defend the national achievements and constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan.”
Yesterday, Tuesday, March 5, coincided with the 33rd anniversary of the launch of the uprising of the masses of Kurdistan in the year 1991, against dictatorship and tyranny, which embodied the pinnacle of cohesion among all the people of Kurdistan, with their various affiliations and segments, and was truly an event and a historical turning point in the life and struggle of the people of Kurdistan and their liberation movement, and created Major fundamental changes at the national and regional levels, and for the first time the entire Kurdistan region was liberated, including the city of Kirkuk.
The spark of this comprehensive mass uprising was launched on March 5, 1991, from the city of Rania (currently the center of the independent administration of Rabarin) within the borders of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, which has since been called (the gateway to the uprising), as the masses of the city and all its affiliated areas were liberated. Let the area of the uprising expand and roll like a snowball that grows little by little, reaching the city of Sulaymaniyah on the 7th of March, where this city completely rose up, and its sons, old and young, and women came out before the men, and its sons were able to control all government departments and institutions, especially security, which fled. Those who managed to escape were killed, and those who were not able to escape, after those institutions collapsed in the face of the overwhelming public wave, so that the city of Sulaymaniyah was completely liberated on March 8.
The cities of Halabja, Chamchamal, Arbat and the rest of the areas near these cities and the main roads between Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk and Baqubah (the center of Diyala Governorate) were also liberated.
On the ninth of March, Koysanjak, Shaqlawa, and Kafri were liberated, and during these days of the uprising, many martyrs rose among the ranks of the masses, following the resistance of members of the security institutions and some military units that the regime tried to strengthen to confront the uprising masses.
