    Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Representative Mudar Al-Karawi, today, Thursday (March 21, 2024), identified three benefits for Iraq from joining the membership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
    Al-Karawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Iraq’s official accession to membership in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( EBRD ) came after the House of Representatives approved the accession law,” pointing out that it is “a positive step that will have important effects in the years.” past.
    Al-Karawi added, “There are three important benefits that can be identified for Baghdad from the decision to join, which are giving high flexibility to the European Bank in financing development and economic projects in Iraq, in addition to developing a policy to enhance energy sufficiency and supporting renewable energy markets, which have promising opportunities in the country, in addition to supporting The private sector and creating a partnership in multiple directions by supporting the axes and the Reconstruction Leadership Initiative.”
    He pointed out that "the European Bank's ability to support private sector projects through the principle of investments will be accompanied by technical and technical support and the development of the capabilities of working personnel, and this represents a positive addition that will further enhance the prospects for cooperation."
    The Iraqi Fund for External Development announced on Wednesday (March 20, 2024) that Iraq has joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
    The Ministry of Finance said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "The Iraqi Fund for External Development in the Ministry of Finance announced the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the membership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( EBRD ) after the House of Representatives approved the accession law."
    The Ministry explained, "This step comes within the Ministry's vision to strengthen the frameworks of cooperation and communication between Iraq and international financial institutions, and after the Fund's continuous coordination with the European Bank's management, the completion of Iraq's contribution process, and the completion of all documents related to accession."
    The Fund confirmed, according to the statement, that “joining will enable the European Bank to finance projects within the country, promote development of various sectors, support the entrepreneurship initiative, and support the private sector through investments and participation in policy dialogue and technical assistance.”
    It is noteworthy that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( EBRD ) is a multilateral development bank headquartered in London. The bank focuses on investment as a tool to rebuild market economies in beneficiary countries, with an emphasis on supporting the private sector and its investments in advisory and political activities.
