    The Director General of Ilam Governorate Customs announced that 350,000 tons of summer agricultural products were exported to Iraq across the Mehran International border last year.

    Mir Agha Abdi told the state-run IRNA agency: This amount of agricultural product exports shows a growth of 75% compared to the same period last year.

    He added: The value of these agricultural products exported to Iraq via Mehran’s international borders amounted to $175 million.



    The Iranian official referred to developments in exports at the Mehran border, and said: Goods worth one billion and 811 million dollars were exported to Iraq and other countries across the Mehran international border last year.

    According to Abdi, this amount of merchandise exports grew by 13% compared to the previous year in value terms.

    He added: The main export commodities from Mehran borders include all types of agricultural products, building materials, cement, bricks, tiles, metal and plastic products.

    He stressed that Mehran International Customs ranks first among 12 border customs with Iraq in terms of exports for several consecutive years.

    The border city of Mehran in Ilam Governorate is about 230 km from Baghdad, and it is the closest Iranian border city to the capital of Iraq and the holy shrines in this country, where it has today become a center for export activities and visitor traffic.

    Every day, an average of 600 trucks carrying export and commercial goods are exported to Iraq from the international border in Mehran after customs procedures.

    The border city of Mehran is located 85 km southwest of Ilam.
