The representative of the coordination framework, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, confirmed today, Thursday, the difficulty of the political blocs reaching a solution to the issue of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Al-Baldawi told Mawazine News, “There are two options, not a third, to determine a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives: either the Sunni component agrees on the candidates, or amends the internal system and opens the door for nominations.”
He added, "The coordination framework worked during the last period to bring the views of the Sunni component closer together and held more than one session, but unfortunately the component did not agree on a specific candidate."
The Iraqi Parliament has been operating without a president since October 15, when the Federal Supreme Court ruled to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership after considering a lawsuit that accused him of falsifying the date of MP Laith Al-Dulaimi’s resignation.
