    The Ministry of Transport has begun taking technical and security measures for the purpose of opening Baghdad International Airport to citizens at the end of next June, coinciding with the preparation of a study to modify the wages of companies operating at the airport.
    Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that the Ministry is implementing extensive campaigns to rehabilitate the squares around airports, as well as modifying the lighting and cameras system, restoring and cleaning Abbas bin Firnas Square, and removing irregular kiosks, in addition to adopting regulations. An accurate wish that saves travellers' time.
    He added that the campaign to rehabilitate Baghdad Airport aims to show it in the way that the citizen and foreign visitor deserves, and to reflect the civilized face of the country as the first gateway to receive travelers, indicating coordination with the official authorities and companies operating at the airport to ease security measures.
    Al-Safi explained that the first phase will begin at the end of next June after the Eid Al-Adha holiday and the end of the reverse transfer operations for pilgrims returning from the Holy Land, and will continue until the end of the current year, as departing citizens will first be allowed to enter on their own wheels, then followed by a second phase that will begin during the next year, and will be For departures and receiving arrivals at the airport.
    He noted that the Ministry is working on a draft to amend the wage system No. 6 of 2016 in line with the work of the new General Company for Airport and Air Navigation Management, as a committee was formed to prepare a system that is commensurate with the work and volume of services provided to the entities operating at the airport, in accordance with the company’s new vision, and is currently in the process of preparing proposals. To be submitted to the official authorities and obtain proper approvals.
