Heyman Sayed Murad, Director General of Agriculture in Erbil, confirmed that the number of people working in the agricultural sector in Erbil Governorate ranges between 100,000 and 150,000 people.
Heman Murad said in a statement: In Erbil, there are 16,000 farmers registered to market wheat, all of whom are residents of Erbil and of different ages.
He added: “We have 570 livestock projects, and all the workers in these projects are residents of Erbil,” adding: “There are between 12 and 16 people working in each project, some of whom are local workers and most of whom are young people.”
He stressed that we have 450 greenhouses in Erbil Governorate, and between 10 and 20 people work in each project, including agricultural workers and engineers.
Murad continued by saying: We have 15 egg production projects, and each project employs between 50 and 70 people. This indicates that the number of projects in the ninth government formation is increasing day after day, in addition to the increase in the number of parks and other sub-projects.
He pointed out that the Alwa Erbil Market Monitoring Department informed us that it will from now on begin granting support to farmers to ensure that they do not object while crossing through the federal government’s barriers, because in the absence of this support, they will be prevented from crossing the barriers.
Sayed Murad said: All local products are in the hands of our local Kurdish farmers, and many people are now working in agriculture.
He added: I can say that 100,000 to 150,000 people work in agriculture within Erbil Governorate, and crops change depending on the seasons of the year. There may be a smaller number of farmers in the winter, but their numbers double in the summer.
Sayed Murad pointed out: Before the ninth government formation in the Kurdistan Region, local production began in early May and late June, and it was a big problem for us, and we did not know what to do with it, and many times farmers and villagers were forced to block the streets in protest against the stagnation of their products and not selling them. .
He concluded by saying: But with the ninth formation beginning its duties 4 years ago, these problems disappeared and the farmers’ products were marketed and exported to foreign countries and Iraq. The presence of the factories built by the ninth government also had a positive impact, as it led to limiting the migration of farmers from the countryside to the city.
