    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Contrary to the common belief that the budget will pass quickly in tomorrow’s session, Monday, and that there is a parliamentary and political agreement to pass it, the data now indicate that it is not possible to decide the budget schedules in tomorrow’s session.
Economic affairs researcher Haider Al-Sheikh confirmed today, Sunday (June 2, 2024), that “the Parliamentary Finance Committee was supposed to prepare the final report on the budget law schedules and finish that last week, especially after the committee’s meeting with the Ministers of Finance and Planning and clarifying all the details related to operational and governance expenditures.” And investments, in addition to the general financial revenue, which amounts to 147 trillion dinars.”
He stated in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the political differences and the demands and proposals of members of the House of Representatives, especially the members of the Finance Committee, affected the committee’s work in writing the final report on the budget schedules, and it was not able to finish the report in the meeting of the past two days.”
The economic affairs researcher added, "This political disagreement over expenditures, expenditures, and financial allocation to ministries and governorates will cause the failure of holding a session tomorrow, Monday, and voting on the budget tables."
In turn, independent MP Muhammad Al-Khafaji confirmed today, Sunday (June 2, 2024), that there are divisions and disagreements among representatives regarding the 2024 budget schedules, despite the fact that a voting session on it has been set by the Presidency of Parliament.
Al-Khafaji told "Baghdad Today", "There are major comments on the budget schedules sent by the government, and there are representatives and political parties who want to pass the schedules as they are without any amendments in accordance with political agreements and deals, and this is something we will never accept."
He stated, "The budget schedules must be passed according to professional, technical, and financial reports, not political deals, and the point of view of the objecting representatives must be taken. There are disagreements and divisions regarding those schedules, and this is what makes tomorrow's session, Monday, threatening, and it may be postponed to another time due to those divisions."
The House of Representatives had set tomorrow, Monday, as the date to vote on the budget schedules, while some representatives considered that the date was not achievable, with continued disagreements over some agenda items.
