The General Company for Iraqi Ports reported that the company operating Al-Faw Port will be international and professional to compete with the ports of neighboring countries.
The project manager for the five container berths in Al-Faw Grand Port, Senior Chief Engineer Raed Ali Al-Sharifi, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that the end of next September will witness the completion of all work according to the contractual period, so that the official receipt will be by the Iraq Ports Authority in early October. He added that after implementation, the operating phase begins and is independent of the implementation of the infrastructure of Al-Faw Port, indicating that the authority prepared for this matter early on, as it began attracting operators to the port, through an announcement to those interested and the details of this phase after the procedures were completed. Al-Sharifi stated that the operation must be carried out by a professional, world-class company with a long history in this business in order to operate the port to be competitive with the countries of the region, and to serve the process of transporting goods by transit through the development road to Fishkhabour in Turkey and reaching Europe through this point, which will be the beginning. . He pointed out that the General Authority for Ports of Iraq seeks expertise in the selected company to have a significant impact on the size, type and quality of the work it specializes in.
