The General Company for Iraqi Ports announced today, Tuesday, the start of digging a marine incision in the Khor Al-Zubair Canal, at a depth of (30) meters, in order to install parts of the submerged tunnel.
The company's general manager, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a statement received by Al-Iqtisad News, "The company implementing the submerged tunnel project, one of the projects of the Grand Al-Faw Port, and through the rig (CSD Tian Bai), began making a sea incision or trench inside the Khor Al-Zubair channel at a depth rate of more than (30) meters.
He explained, "The ten pieces that make up the submerged part of the Basra Tunnel within the Grand Al-Faw Port Project will be placed in this trench, where they will be installed in the places designated for them, after which the burial process will take place using sand (first layer) and a layer of rocks to protect them from collisions with ships." ".
He continued, "The work will continue until the end of next October," noting that "the expected amount of excavation is (2,700,000) m3."
