    The political advisor to the Prime Minister confirmed that parties within the framework do not support early elections, while indicating that the Commission needs nine months as an operational measure to hold any electoral entitlement, whether early or regular.
    Fadi Al-Shammari said in a televised interview seen by “Baghdad Today”, today, Wednesday (June 19, 2024), that “the statements that were circulated recently by the political forces about early elections were presented in the media and were not discussed in the political decision-making kitchens or in the meetings of the coordination framework or State Administration Coalition,” indicating that “the multiplicity of ideas and visions among political forces is present at all times, and there is no ideal consensus.”
    Al-Shammari added, “Differences in opinion between the political forces are normal because the forces come from multiple walks of life and moods, and not one case, including the framework forces,” noting that “a number of political forces, when forming the government, were primarily concerned with moving the country to stability.”
    He continued, "There was no intention to hold early elections among a number of the Coordination Framework forces when forming the government," stressing that "some of the Coordination Framework forces saw, when forming the government, the necessity of restoring stability and people's confidence in the regime."
    He pointed out that "setting the date for the elections is not done by a government initiative, but rather by the political forces and by Parliament," explaining that "the Commission needs 9 months as an operational procedure to hold any electoral entitlement, whether early or regular."
    He stated that "resorting to amending the election law may take from 4 to 6 months," stressing that "Al-Hikma and other parties in the coordination framework do not support holding early elections, and are moving towards holding the elections on time in the year 2025."
    Al-Shammari stressed, “Political forces have the right to say and present whatever they want, taking into account the realistic and technical requirements of each topic.”
    On the thirteenth of this June, Nouri al-Maliki, the former Iraqi Prime Minister, called for early parliamentary elections in the country by the end of the current year 2024, stressing that the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani is obligated to do so within his electoral program, stressing the need to prevent government officials from participating. He called for "the elections to be held across multiple constituencies, not as the last elections took place," demanding a law that prevents executive officials (the prime minister, members of the government, and officials) from participating in the elections.
    He continued, "Some may say that executives have the right to run in elections, but the election law prevents the nomination of Iraqis abroad, and judges are prohibited from participating in elections unless they resign, and the military is prohibited from participating unless they resign. The issue is not as some rational writers talk about it." Every citizen has the right to participate,” he said. He stressed that "there is acceptance of holding early elections by 50 to 60%."
    He pointed out that "the recent elections that took place revealed a clear phenomenon, which is that the participants appropriated all the money and capabilities at their disposal, whether they were ministers or governors. The wisdom of the elections is that they reveal the tendencies of society, but these elections were elections of money, interests, privileges and distributions, and did not reveal the truth." “On the people’s trends, I can only say that the money that came from the vote caused an imbalance, and if this imbalance continues, the wisdom of elections will end.”
    He added, "A number of countries work according to what we propose, meaning that the executive resigns six months before the elections are held. This is applied even in Iran and other countries, and it is an idea that does not oppress anyone. If the executive wants to run for elections, he must resign in order to preserve the will of the electoral process." “It is very necessary if we want to protect the dignity and sanctity of the electoral process.”
