MP Thaer Al-Jubouri confirmed, on Thursday, that agricultural investment increased by 10% during the first half of this year.[/size]
[size=45]Al-Jubouri told the agency, “Investment in the agricultural sector witnessed an upward growth rate during the first half of this year, at a rate of up to 10%, despite the challenges of drought and climatic conditions,” pointing out that “the bulk of the investment was with local resources.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, “7 regions attracted the bulk of the money invested in the agricultural sector, the most prominent of which is the Samawa Desert, with the presence of strategic reserves of groundwater that give a glimmer of hope for the sustainability of agricultural production in large areas.”[/size]
[size=45]He pointed out that "Iraq has come close in several seasons to achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops, but according to temporary periods, stressing that adopting new methods in production will bring about a fundamental change in maintaining self-sufficiency throughout the year, which means reducing the import bill by very high percentages."[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that Iraq imports agricultural crops worth tens of millions of dollars annually to cover the deficit in the production balance.” End 25 F[/size]
