    Today, Friday (June 28, 2024), the Parliamentary Integrity Committee commented on the continuation of corruption operations in various state institutions despite the Federal Integrity Commission announcing the arrest of those accused and involved in corruption on a daily basis.
    Committee member Hadi Al-Salami told Baghdad Today, "The continuation of corruption despite the Integrity Commission announcing the arrest of those accused and involved in corruption on a daily basis, is due to the existence of political protection for the corrupt. The matter is also linked to the presence of some influential figures in the government and state institutions, who sponsor and protect corruption."
    Al-Salami stated that “stopping corruption operations is achieved by implementing the subject of automation, governance and digital transformation in all state institutions. This project guarantees an end to corruption and theft operations, but there is a will to prevent this project, and therefore corruption continues despite all the efforts of the Integrity Commission.”
    Every now and then, the Integrity Commission announces the arrest of people accused of corruption in various parts of the state, but as observers see it, it only targets the “small ones” who are bribed or embezzled, and the “whales of corruption” are not approached because they are under “political protection.” Despite the clarity of some deals stealing billions, they are overlooked and covered up in the media, and even those who write about them are attacked and accused of targeting political or religious symbols.
