    Al-Maalouma / Baghdad...
Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Economy and Trade Committee, Yasser Hashem Al-Husseini, warned the government today, Monday, against extending the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline.
Al-Husseini said in an interview with / Al-Maalouma / agency, that "extending the pipeline from an economic standpoint harms Iraq and benefits Jordan, indicating that the government, the Ministry of Oil, and the Ministerial Council for the Economy are still silent regarding objections from members of the House of Representatives or a popular movement."
He added that "the narrative adopted by the government to diversify oil sources through extending the Basra-Aqaba pipeline is false, unjust, and slanderous against the Iraqi people."
He pointed out that "there is no economic benefit from extending the pipeline, which will burden the country with nearly $17 billion as a first stage, in addition to the cost of establishing an oil refinery in Jordan and a petrochemical plant in Egypt at the expense of Iraq, in which the people of Egypt and Jordan will work, and the rest of the oil will be given to the Zionist entity, all of this at the will and dictates of the United States."
