Baghdad/Al-Masala: Member of the Parliamentary Economic Committee, Yasser Al-Hussaini, confirmed that clear violations were observed that amount to “crimes” against public funds in the Iraqi Ports Company, noting that “it did not deliver to the Ministry of Finance revenues exceeding 3 trillion dinars.”
Member of the Parliamentary Economic Committee, Yasser Al-Hussaini, said today, Wednesday 2024, that “we have concluded the meeting of the Parliamentary Order Committee tasked with investigating violations in Iraqi ports, which prove to us day after day the existence of clear violations that amount to crimes against public money, as they were committed intentionally, exceeding what was called the theft of the century.”
He added: “We are proceeding with diagnosing these violations, and including a final report for the 160th Parliamentary Security Committee. This report will be completed during this month and will include all the violations that we have proven.”
He continued, saying: “We asked the Ports Company to provide us with data and documents for the purpose of investigative procedures, but unfortunately the information is incomplete. Then the Iraqi Ports Company went on to deny these documents and abandon them, even though they were officially submitted to us, and it was proven to us that they were spent from public money under the social benefits section, which is allocated exclusively for the company’s activities, but it exceeded all powers.”
He explained that the Ports Company “did not provide Iraq or the state budget from the year of this current administration’s assumption (2020 to 2024), a single cent, while its imports were nearly 3 trillion 175 billion dinars, and its accounts were transferred from government banks to private ones, and this procedure causes harm as it was possible to benefit from it by investing in private banks because the aforementioned amount is large and it was possible to benefit from it.”
He attributed the reason behind the violations in the Iraqi Ports Company to the fact that it is “managed according to the whims of the current administration.”
The current administration of the ports, according to the member of the parliamentary economic committee, has mortgaged the strategic projects that generate revenues to “private companies with contracts that exhaust the Iraqi budget. These companies are merely a cover for political parties, and there will be a cloning of these activities if the current administration remains in place, and it will then affect the path of development as well, so that there will be no real revenues for this path.”
