    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Victory Coalition, led by former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, confirmed today, Monday (September 2, 2024), that there is a political consensus to reject holding early parliamentary elections in Iraq.
The coalition spokesman, Salam al-Zubaidi, told Baghdad Today, "There are clear successes for al-Sudani and his government on various levels, and this is what makes there no justification for holding early parliamentary elections, in light of the political and governmental stability."
Al-Zubaidi explained that "all the forces of the Coordination Framework reject early elections, and this matter was only raised by the leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, and the rest of the forces of the State Administration Coalition also reject early elections, and they are with the continuation of Al-Sudani's government."
He continued: "Therefore, there is a broad political consensus to reject early parliamentary elections, and the point of view of one political party cannot be imposed on the rest of the political parties and blocs."
On June 17, 2024, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani pledged to achieve all the components of his government’s ministerial program, which was voted on by Parliament at the end of October 2022, stressing that establishing security is one of his priorities, in a statement that al-Sudani addressed to Iraqis on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
These pledges by the Prime Minister coincided with the controversy caused by the statements of Nouri al-Maliki, the former Prime Minister and leader of the Coordination Framework, when he called for early elections within six months.
The general program of Al-Sudani's government included several items and axes, most notably extending security and stability, addressing the problems of poverty and unemployment, resuming work on important projects, and combating corruption, in addition to an item stipulating the holding of early parliamentary elections.
    The last item is gone.
However, the last item has faded from the tongues of the country's political forces with the success of Al-Sudani's government in a number of files that created clear security and political stability in Iraq, and talk of holding early elections has become nothing more than political pressure and maneuvering to achieve political goals and objectives.
In addition to the statements of many leaders of political blocs, representatives and leaders in the State Administration Coalition, which confirmed that Al-Sudani’s government is on its way to completing four years, the government is continuing its work and is still performing its duties and setting plans and programs that require months and years to implement, which suggests that it is continuing for a full cycle without any serious intention to replace it with parliamentary elections that will bring about something else .
