If someone had said 10 years ago that Baghdad would one day be the capital of Arab tourism, no one would have believed him. Because the heavy nightmare that weighed on the heart of Iraq had led everyone to absolute despair of the possibility of Baghdad regaining the golden luster that shines whenever its name is mentioned.
But great historical cities never die, and ten years pass like a moment in eternity. That is why the news of Iraq’s readiness to submit the file for “Baghdad, Capital of Arab Tourism” comes to confirm the greatness of our capital, its refusal to die, and its ability to overcome years of devastation. This is the first time an Iraqi city has been nominated for such an event, and in the next two days the government, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will submit its files to the Council of Arab Tourism Ministers to decide on the matter and approve it.
Choosing Baghdad for these events will not only be a matter of consideration, but it also includes many political, economic, media, cultural and above all tourism benefits. Broad sectors will be active in performing the events accompanying the event, and there will be internal and external investments, and the private sector will have a share in this project, which is a symbol of the return of life to Baghdad and the return of Arabs to it.
The tourism activities that we see in Arab capitals are of great benefit because they are not only of an official political nature, but they are a wide door for the participation and interaction of Arabs, citizens, intellectuals and investors, which is more influential and restores confidence among peoples than official conferences. When Arabs return to Baghdad, they know that they are returning to a city that was their capital for centuries.
