[size=45]Turkish forces have recorded more than 25,000 violations of Iraqi territory since 2003, in the context of their ongoing military operations against Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq.[/size]
[size=45]These violations come amid growing tensions between Baghdad and Ankara, as Turkey claims that it is targeting elements of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which it classifies as a terrorist organization.[/size]
[size=45]MP Mohammed Rasool confirmed that Turkish violations of Iraqi territory after 2003 exceeded 25,000 violations.[/size]
[size=45]Rasool said in press statements that “Turkish forces have military barracks in many locations inside Iraqi territory in the Kurdistan Region, which means that what is happening is not temporary operations, but rather the implementation of a long-term agenda.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, "The Turkish forces are only 28 km away from the center of Mosul, and they impose their influence in nearly 4,000 km," stressing "the danger of what is happening to security and stability and the necessity of having a national position towards the ongoing Turkish incursion."[/size]
[size=45]He explains that “the Iraqi constitution is clear in the file of signing any protocols, agreements or memoranda of understanding that Parliament must have knowledge and approval.”[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that "Turkish forces have been carrying out a large-scale invasion since last June in several areas within the Kurdistan Region, especially Dohuk."[/size]
[size=45]On December 3, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country would strengthen its fixed military bases in northern Iraq in the coming months, stressing that “by spring, we will have completed the infrastructure of our newly established bases (in northern Iraq), and we will make it impossible for terrorists to set foot in the region.”[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed last April that “our withdrawal from northern Iraq and northern Syria means the cessation of our military operations against terrorism and the approach of terrorists to our borders, and this poses a threat to our national security, meaning that terrorist organizations will fill the vacuum that will occur if Turkish forces withdraw from northern Syria, so Turkish forces will not withdraw from Iraq and Syria.”[/size]
[size=45]Since the beginning of 2021, Turkey has greatly escalated its operations in Iraq, carrying out many airdrops, in addition to establishing security points after its ground forces entered various areas of Dohuk and Nineveh, in addition to announcing the establishment of a new military base in Iraqi territory, with the aim of pursuing elements of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, especially in the Sinjar district of Nineveh.[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that the Turkish Parliament voted on October 26 to extend the presence of Turkish military forces for another two years in Iraq and Syria, and authorized the government to send more troops.[/size]
