    Baghdad Today - Erbil
Sulaymaniyah protest activist Dana Zanga confirmed today, Thursday (September 12, 2024), that the issue of promotions and allowances for employees and educational cadres in the region has been subject to procrastination by the regional government.
In an interview with Baghdad Today, Zankaneh said, “Teachers’ promotions have been suspended since 2015, and we demonstrated and protested to demand the reinstatement of this system. It is not reasonable that an employee has not been promoted from one level to another for about 10 years.”
He added, "Despite the regional government's agreement to reinstate the system of promotions and allowances, it has delayed our demands. However, if this delay in our demands continues and our rights are not met, we will return to demonstrating and protesting and use all legitimate means."
Former Kurdistan Regional Parliament member Jihad Hassan confirmed earlier that the budget for salaries of Kurdistan employees, including Peshmerga, retirees, and social welfare, amounts to about 930 billion dinars, indicating that  with the demands of educational cadres to pass the law on promotions and allowances, the value of salaries will exceed one trillion dinars, just salaries paid every month in the Kurdistan Region.
Sources in the regional government estimate the number of salary recipients in Kurdistan at 1,251,000, including 751,805 civil and military employees. The Kurdistan government says it needs more than 940 billion dinars per month to cover salaries.
