    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee confirmed, on Thursday, its absolute rejection of exporting oil through the Jordanian port of Aqaba for free.[/rtl]
[rtl]Member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Alaa Al-Haidari, said, "The beginning of the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project to export oil included Aqaba-Haditha and then the Turkish port of Ceyhan, i.e. activating the old line to transport Iraqi oil."[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "There is a popular will in Basra to reject extending the oil pipeline from the governorate towards Aqaba, and we cannot allow oil to be exported through neighboring countries for free at all." [/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "There is no problem with extending the Basra-Hadithah pipeline with the aim of meeting the internal need because the old strategic pipeline is dilapidated and has many technical problems," noting that "there is continuous follow-up by the Oil and Energy Committee regarding the project."[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that "the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project is useless and all data indicates that there is no economic feasibility or tangible benefit for Iraq from this project, which will cost Iraq very large sums."[/rtl]
