Mawazine News - Baghdad
Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi confirmed on Friday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is doing everything he can to stop the ceasefire. While stressing that the major countries and the United Nations are required to take positions to pressure and stop the Zionist aggression, he pointed out that Iraq's approach emphasizes regional and international cooperation to stop the war.
Al-Awadi said: "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani held intensive international meetings after the battles moved from Gaza to Lebanon and the tragic events that took place in Lebanon that may spread to other regions," indicating that "the Iraqi approach since the start of the war on October 7 of last year has been regional and international diplomatic cooperation to put an end to the war in the region."
He added that "Iraq looks forward to the two major important countries, permanent members of the Security Council, Russia and China, playing a role in the ceasefire, and France's role in this cannot be hidden by anyone," stressing the need for "the Security Council to play its role and have a position in deterring aggression and for the United Nations organizations to play their role in protecting the victims and displaced persons in Gaza and Lebanon."
He stressed that "the Zionist channel that dared to undermine the position of the supreme religious authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, is an unofficial channel, but it represents the Zionist far right and is close to the Prime Minister of the entity, and tried to convey a certain message, and the matter was strongly condemned by the Iraqi government, presidencies and political parties, and the US embassy issued a statement regarding this transgression, in addition to the response of the ambassadors of European countries and the ambassadors of Russia and China," noting that "Iraq does not allow or accept the mere media waving or transmission of an image of Sayyid al-Sistani, and the supreme authority in Iraq should not be dragged into these issues."
He stated that "the Prime Minister is doing what he can to stop the war through his meetings and continuous contacts with major, regional and Arab countries, and recently Arab activity began from the Gulf region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and there was a statement by the Gulf Cooperation Council calling for an end to the war," explaining, "We look forward as an Arab system to cooperate together, and this is what is required for that."
He continued, "The Prime Minister of the entity, Benjamin Netanyahu, is suffering from hysteria and megalomania and must be curbed," noting, "the need to pressure the international community to issue a UN resolution obligating the Zionist entity to cease fire."
Al-Awadi explained, "The United States says it is doing everything it can to stop the fire with certain efforts," expressing his hope that "it will intensify its efforts and be more honest in pressuring the Zionist entity to cease fire immediately."
Regarding the Lebanese guests of Iraq, Al-Awadi confirmed that "the number of Lebanese guests of Iraq has reached 8,000 and we expect the number to rise to 10,000 people in the coming days," explaining, "The Ministry of Health is spending from its budget to aid the Lebanese people and the Red Crescent is also doing its duty, as well as the Ministry of Trade, the Popular Mobilization Forces and a number of ministries. The Ministry of Immigration has also allocated 3 billion to enhance its budget during the Cabinet session to support its work and hospitality for the Lebanese."
Yesterday, government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi confirmed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani's recent meetings with ambassadors of several countries come as part of his ongoing efforts to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Al-Awadi said in a post on the "X" platform - monitored by Mawazine News: "The Prime Minister's meetings today with three ambassadors of major countries (America, Russia and China) come as a continuous link in his ongoing movement to stop the Gaza and Lebanon war, prevent its expansion and maintain the stability of Iraq and the region." He added, "The Prime Minister spoke frankly about the importance of activating the two positions (Chinese and Russian) and raising them to the level of the crisis in mobilizing the institutions of the international community and restoring their role in deterring aggression, preserving international peace, preventing the targeting of civilians and activating the mechanisms of relief programs for war victims." He pointed out that "the Prime Minister asked his guests, the ambassadors of the permanent member states of the United Nations, to take positions on those who dared from some extremist media outlets to attack the position of the supreme religious authority."
