    Economy News - Baghdad
Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi announced on Sunday the issuance of a set of recommendations regarding the spread of gases in the capital. While he attributed them to irregular factories and the obsolescence of refineries, the Ministry of Environment confirmed that the pollutants are within the acceptable range and do not cause fear or concern.
Al-Alawi said in a press conference, followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", "We met today with the Ministry of Environment to discuss the issue of the spread of gases and pollution in the capital, Baghdad," indicating that "the presence of irregular factories and the obsolescence of some factories and refineries led to citizens feeling the effects of polluting emissions and was one of their causes."

He added, "We identified the problems and reached a set of recommendations that will be submitted to the committee formed by the Prime Minister to discuss them and provide the necessary solutions within two days," stressing the need for "there to be a team specialized in following up and monitoring to implement all decisions issued by the committee for rapid treatment at the very least now."

In turn, the Director General of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Ministry, Sinan Jaafar, said during the conference that "these emissions are still under study by the Ministry of Environment," explaining that "we have a preliminary vision based on emission measurements that do not indicate the presence of fabricated compounds or attempts to intentionally harm public health."

He continued, "These effects are negative, but they are generally within acceptable measurements and do not call for fear or concern," explaining that "the environmental problem remains and is the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment and other ministries to diagnose it."

Yesterday, Saturday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed the formation of a committee to study the state of pollution and the recurring emission of the sulfur smell prevalent in Baghdad and the neighboring governorates, while stressing that the committee submit its report on the subject within two days.
