    Baghdad Today - Erbil
The preliminary results of the special voting for the Kurdistan Parliament elections , today, Saturday (October 19, 2024), showed progress in the votes of the ruling parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union, while the Change Movement was absent from the electoral scene during the special voting after failing to obtain 500 votes.
Baghdad Today correspondent said that according to the initial results, the Democratic Party came first in two governorates, Erbil and Dohuk, while the Patriotic Union came first in the governorates of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party came in first place in Erbil, with 54,000 votes so far, a large margin over its main competitors, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the New Generation, followed by the Position Movement and the Islamic Union.
In Dohuk, the Kurdistan Democratic Party came in first place with 23,000 votes, the Patriotic Union came in second with 1,500 votes, and the Islamic Union came in third with about a thousand votes.
In Sulaymaniyah, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan came first with 33,000 votes, the New Generation came second with 4,800 votes, the Kurdistan Democratic Party came third, the Position Movement came fourth, and the People's Front came fifth.
In Halabja, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan came first, the Islamic Union came second, and the Democratic Party came third.
One of the most notable surprises in these elections was the absence of the Change Movement and its inability to obtain 500 votes in all the governorates. It is the largest opposition movement within the region, which had obtained large seats and numbers in the previous elections. The elections also witnessed a decline in the votes of the Islamic parties.
The Independent High Electoral Commission announced, today, Saturday (October 19, 2024), the final report on the closing of the special ballot in the Kurdistan Region elections.
According to the report issued by the Commission, and received by "Baghdad Today", "according to the procedures for the special voting process to elect the Kurdistan Regional Parliament of Iraq 2024 for its sixth session, the polling stations spread inside and outside the governorates of the region and other governorates were closed, and the electoral process took place until the ballot boxes were closed in a smooth manner and without any security breaches worth mentioning."
She added that "the total number of open centers is (165) polling centers inside and outside the region's governorates, and the total number of polling stations reached (749) stations," stressing that "the total number of voters in the special vote reached (215,960) voters, of whom (208,521) people voted."
