    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The head of the Ana Iraq parliamentary bloc, Haider Al-Salami, confirmed today, Monday (October 28, 2024), his rejection of passing the personal status and general amnesty laws in “one basket.”
Al-Salami said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "Attempts to pass laws are continuing using the one-basket mechanism in which controversial laws are collected in one session to be voted on by members of the House of Representatives without ensuring their legal maturity and the extent to which they serve all the Iraqi people."
He added that "insisting on following the one-basket mechanism perpetuates self-interest among political forces and reflects a state of distrust among them, and places members of the House of Representatives before difficult and unfortunate choices," stressing his rejection of "this miserable mechanism as an approach to passing important laws."
Al-Salami explained that “all laws are important due to their nature, and therefore more efforts must be made to address and correct the content of laws based on sound legislative foundations to be in line with the country’s supreme interest, far from partisan interests.”
