MP Salah Zini called, on Saturday, for an investigation into the largest corruption files in Diyala Governorate.
Zini said in an interview, “The size of the budgets allocated to finance projects in Diyala to establish the main service infrastructure and prevent sewage networks reached large numbers, but with the first rainy night, the neighborhoods, markets and streets were flooded, revealing to us the enormity of corruption and fictitious projects.”
He added, "The flooding of Diyala cities requires actual measures to open investigation files to find out where tens of billions were spent, which were exploited for electoral gain without any investigation on the ground," noting that "the flooding of cities revealed the truth of what we have been warning about for years, the danger of corruption and the additional suffering it causes."
He pointed out that "the time has come to hold accountable those behind the biggest corruption cases in Diyala and to put in place mechanisms that ensure proper planning and implementation and to hold accountable those involved in wasting public money."
It is noteworthy that most of the cities of Diyala were flooded with the first shower of rain, while entire neighborhoods have been suffering since two days due to the rainwater. End of 25 Y
