    Economy News - Follow-up
Baghdad Provincial Council is conducting a comprehensive study of companies that have submitted bids to implement projects through direct referral as part of its plan to activate the oversight role.
Director of the Baghdad Periphery Services Authority, Ashraf Kamel, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that the authority supervises the projects implemented by companies through its engineers who work on preparing reports on the rates of completion.
He pointed out that projects will be stopped through legal means, contractors will be held accountable, and work will be withdrawn from them in the event of a defect in performance, especially if the project is in its early stages, based on the government program to accurately diagnose stalled projects and address the causes for this in order to accelerate work, speed up completion, and activate the oversight role.
Kamel explained that the authority is currently conducting a study of the companies that submitted bids to the Baghdad Governorate to implement projects in order to select the solid ones among them with which the governorate will work through direct referral, indicating that this process will be conducted under certain conditions, including that they have similar work inside and outside the country, in addition to the importance of having a large capital.
He stressed that the governorate seeks to include different companies in projects and not limit itself to some of them, pointing out that infrastructure projects require speed in performance, and therefore it seeks to follow the direct referral method.
Kamel added that the authority is coordinating with the Baghdad Governorate to create new municipal departments, because there are several districts that have expanded and need projects, but this matter requires huge sums of money in order to cover their expenses of mechanisms, tools and logistical materials, as well as allocations and human resources.
