Report...
The congratulations of President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to US President-elect Donald Trump sparked political and popular resentment, as he is wanted by the Iraqi judiciary as the person primarily responsible for the assassination of the martyred victory leaders Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani.
Trump pursued hostile policies towards Iraq during his previous presidential term, and threatened to impose sanctions on Iraq to “send it back to the Stone Age,” as he boasted at the time. He also violated Iraq’s sovereignty by landing at and leaving the Ain al-Asad base without informing the Iraqi authorities or meeting any of its officials.
Observers expect that Trump will return to following the same approach with Iraq if it opposes his policies and crude desires, especially in light of the severe tensions that the region is experiencing as a result of the Zionist aggression on Gaza and Lebanon and its violation of Iraqi airspace.
Politician Saad Al-Mutalibi said in an interview, “Weakening Iraq is part of the strategic plans of the United States, which is the primary supporter of the Zionist entity, and both are carrying out a conspiracy against Iraq, which refuses normalization, unlike the normalizing Arab countries.”
He added that “the United States reinforces its lie with a bigger lie by claiming that the presence of its forces in Iraq is to protect the country from ISIS, which is their offspring and under their care and still enjoys their protection.” He explained that “Washington is an important part of the reasons for Iraq’s inability to regain its health and rise in the region, and Iraq will remain in this cycle as long as some political forces continue to prefer their interests over the interests of the country.”
