[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee revealed some of the disagreements related to the selection of candidates for the list of new ambassadors.
Member of the committee, MP Haider Al-Salami, said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: "Work is still ongoing on the list of candidates for new ambassadors, amid disagreements and objections related to the candidates of the political blocs."
He explained: "The political consensus since the last legislative session resulted in an agreement that the list of new ambassadors would include 50% of the ministry's candidates and 50% of the political blocs' candidates, and there are clear objections and rejection of this mechanism and the necessity for the selection of ambassadors from members of the diplomatic corps according to the job ladder."
He added: "There is a list of candidates prepared in the previous parliamentary session and they were interviewed at that time and the nominations were "filtered", but it was not presented to the House of Representatives, which made it subject to change at any time and is no longer binding," indicating: "The parliamentary political agreement to select new ambassadors is in violation of the Foreign Service Law, which specified a percentage not exceeding 25% from outside the ministry to be selected to work in foreign missions."
The member of the parliamentary committee confirmed: "The file of selecting new ambassadorial candidates will not proceed easily, at least at the present time, despite the urgent need to name new ambassadors as Iraqi missions abroad suffer from vacancies and shortages in ambassadorial positions."
He continued by saying that "the number of vacancies in ambassadorial positions, with those currently in service, most of whom are on the verge of retirement due to reaching the legal age, will make us generally need about 100 ambassadors," noting: "Some of the current ambassadors must return to service within the ministry and are not required to remain to work in the missions, according to the Foreign Service Law." / End 5
