Transportation: 20 public transport lines to be launched this month

The Ministry of Transport will launch 20 new public transport lines in Baghdad during the current month, in conjunction with the adoption of the electronic payment system in all those operating in the capital.
The Director of the Ministry's Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in a statement to "Al-Sabah" that his ministry, as part of its plan aimed at activating public transport in Baghdad and providing suitable, comfortable and civilized lines that serve its users, has opened 43 red bus lines with one and two floors in the past months to operate on the streets of Karkh and Rusafa, in addition to resuming work on new and advanced passenger shelters along the paths of those lines.
He revealed that his ministry will launch 20 public transport lines in Baghdad during the current month, noting that all of those lines will adopt the electronic payment system, especially the lines designated for university students, and coordination will be made with local governments to open public transport lines in them gradually early next year.
Al-Safi revealed that there is a great demand from citizens to take public transportation, especially in areas and neighborhoods that are witnessing its introduction for the first time, pointing out that there is a great movement from his ministry to intensify public transportation services in remote and densely populated areas to provide suitable transportation for those with limited income.
