    Economy News - Follow-up
The Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee has set the cost of rehabilitating and updating air quality measurement stations at 2.65 billion dinars, due to them being out of service for years.
The head of the committee, Majed Shankali, said in an interview with "Sabah", followed by "Economy News", that the problem of the leakage of the smell of sulfur and other pollutants in the country's skies is due to old accumulations that have not been treated over many years.
He pointed out that members of the committee formed to address the spread of the smell of sulfur and air pollution were recently hosted, where measures to avoid this were discussed in coordination with the relevant authorities, and the need to expedite this by spreading environmental culture and adhering to environmental instructions and specifications to contribute to improving the country's general environment.
Shankali explained that the allocations spent on the Ministry of Environment this year did not exceed 950 million dinars, which is a small amount in light of the pollution in the country's skies, so there is a need for additional support to confront the ever-increasing environmental problems.
He pointed out that the Council of Ministers allocated two billion dinars to address the leakage of the smell of sulfur in the air of Baghdad, noting that the Ministry of Environment needs about two billion and 650 million dinars to rehabilitate air purification stations, most of which have been out of service for many years, calling for the formation of an environmental reform committee to which all the ministries and concerned institutions are linked and which is specifically supervised by the Ministry of Environment.
