    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Friday, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Industry, Dhuha Al-Jubouri, revealed the number of factories in Iraq, while indicating the number of active factories.
Al-Jubouri said in a statement followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", "The total number of factories affiliated with public sector companies in Iraq is about 227 factories, while the number of active factories is only 140."
She added, "The ministry formed a committee to study the status of the closed factories, and the committee concluded that most of the closed factories are very old and there is no point in rehabilitating them."
Al-Jubouri explained that "the ministry has developed a plan that focuses on important strategic industries, such as the sulfur, phosphate and fertilizer industries."
She concluded by saying, "The Ministry has entered into important partnerships with international companies to support the national industry, including a partnership with the American company "Vale" to produce agricultural sprayers, and a partnership with the company "Lafarge" to re-produce local resistant cement."
