Planning: Two important pre-census activities start today and tomorrow

The Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority of the Ministry of Planning is conducting an important event today, Thursday, preceding the actual conduct of the general population and housing census next week, ruling out that the curfew during the census is a "house arrest", while the local government of Karbala, in coordination with the police command, is launching today, Thursday, the initial population and housing census with the participation of four thousand and 200 field researchers.
The Executive Director of the Census, Ali Aryan Al-Saadi, told Al-Sabah that the stage of packaging, enumeration and numbering, which is the most important in the general population and housing census, has been completed, and training courses for enumerators will be completed to effectively conduct the general population census on the 20th and 21st of this November.
Al-Saadi explained that the two days of conducting the census will be preceded by stages, the first of which will begin today, Thursday, with the researchers and the supervisor going to introduce them to the places and regions in which they will conduct the census, and alerting families to prepare all their official documents in preparation for the census day.
Al-Saadi confirmed that another activity will be held from the 15th to the 19th of this month, by visiting families to obtain some detailed information, then the final visit will be on the 20th and 21st of this month to verify the data obtained by the meter during the previous stage, in anticipation of any changes that may have occurred during the previous days, such as births or deaths.
The Executive Director of the Census warned that the curfew that will be implemented on the 20th and 21st to implement the general population census will prevent people from moving between administrative units such as governorates, districts, or sub-districts, or from the countryside to the city and vice versa, adding that movement will be limited for citizens but it is not "house arrest", as they can move for shopping purposes or to purchase some essential needs for their homes within the areas in which they live.
In addition, and within the procedures of the population census that will start in Baghdad and all governorates at the end of next week, the local government of Karbala, in coordination with the police command, launched today, Thursday, the initial census of the population and housing with the participation of four thousand and 200 field researchers.
Director of Karbala Statistics, Abbas Al-Masoudi, told Al-Sabah: The general population census activities in Karbala Governorate had started on the first of last September, and its first stages included numbering and enumeration and included all parts of the governorate from urban to rural areas and continued for two months.
He added that the initial counting phase will be launched today, Thursday, with the participation of 4,200 field researchers, directors and assistants, and will continue until December 10, indicating that the counting process will include all Iraqi and foreign families and all areas of the province, praising the fruitful cooperation of all government institutions, including the provincial police leadership, which provided the necessary security protection for the researchers, since the start of the experimental counting last May.
For his part, the Director of Relations and Media in the Karbala Police Command, Colonel Ihsan Al-Asadi, stated in a statement to “Al-Sabah” that the police command and all intelligence and security agencies in the province had completed their preparations to conduct the general population census with the aim of providing the necessary protection for the census staff, noting that there is high coordination between the command and the statistics department in the province in preparation for imposing a curfew on the 20th and 21st of this month.
