    Economy News - Baghdad
Minister of Industry Khaled Batal confirmed, today, Thursday, working with the Ministry of Electricity to meet the needs of next summer, indicating that the transformers of the ministry's companies are of higher quality than imported ones.
Batal said: "Today we visited the General Company for Electrical Industries, in order to prepare for the production of distribution transformers and power transformers to meet the needs of the Ministry of Electricity."
He explained that "the Council of Ministers had previously taken a decision authorizing the Ministry of Electricity to set a specific contractual ceiling, with the aim of preparing for the summer season, which is the peak of demand for electricity."
The minister pointed out that “the challenges of electricity are not only related to production, but also include transmission and distribution, with problems concentrated in the aspect of solving distribution bottlenecks due to high loads,” indicating that “the ministry has two companies specialized in the production and maintenance of transformers, and that the transformers produced by the Ministry of Industry are of higher quality compared to imported ones, but the Ministry of Electricity sometimes resorts to purchasing transformers of lower quality and price due to the lack of financial allocations.”
Batal confirmed, "There are problems in the flow of financial liquidity from the Ministry of Finance to the Electricity, and from there to the manufacturing companies, as the Ministry of Electricity has not yet paid an amount estimated at 13 billion dinars to the General Company for Electrical Industries, which affects the workflow."
He added, "The Ministry of Industry is working continuously with the Ministry of Electricity to solve these problems, and that it is committed to providing the required transformers and cables to reduce electricity problems during the coming summer."
