The Supreme Commission for the General Population and Housing Census announced today, Saturday, the end of the second phase of the census, while indicating that the results will be announced this week.
The commission stated in a statement that "the Supreme Commission for the General Population and Housing Census announces the end of the second phase of the population census, which is the (family register) phase, which took three days," noting that "what has been achieved in this phase is a great achievement for Iraq and Iraqis, in light of the enormity of the work and the great challenges, as the coverage rate for individuals, families and buildings reached very high ceilings approaching (100%), which is the highest rate recorded in the history of Iraqi censuses, and at the level of the countries of the region, and the exceptional efforts made by the field teams played a prominent role in achieving this great success of the project."
The Commission praised the "great support from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the high level of response from citizens, which had a significant impact in achieving the goals, in addition to the role of the security services in providing a safe and calm environment for field researchers to accomplish their tasks," noting that "while the High Commission for Census confirms that the initial results will be announced within the current week, it expresses its deep appreciation for the efforts of the governors and heads of administrative units in all governorates, for the great support they provided for this project, which represents exceptional importance for the present and future of Iraq."
She added: "The Commission looks with appreciation at the efforts made by all ministries and entities not affiliated with a ministry, all media institutions, the Iraqi Media Network, the Communications and Media Commission, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, the staff of the Statistics Commission and its departments in all governorates, the advanced cadres of the Ministry of Planning and its employees, and all the efforts made that complemented each other for Iraq to achieve this great development entitlement," expressing "its deep appreciation to the United Nations Mission in Iraq for the technical and advisory support it provided to the Iraqi government, especially the United Nations Population Fund, which provided a lot of important expertise and consultations in all stages of the technical work of the General Population and Housing Census Project in Iraq."
The Commission indicated that "the implementation and success of the population census project confirms the government's fulfillment of its commitment, as the results and outputs of this census will have an effective impact in directing development paths towards their correct goals, and thus improving the level of services and achieving the desired economic growth."
