Aiming to enhance services in schools and prevent diseases, the National School Health Strategy for the years 2024-2030 was launched.

The Ministry of Health launched the National School Health Strategy for the years 2024-2030 in coordination with the World Health Organization.
On the sidelines of the strategy launch, Minister of Education Dr. Ibrahim Namas Yassin told Al-Sabah: The new strategy focuses on providing a healthy environment in schools and protecting students from diseases, and is an essential part of sustainable development.
He added that the strategy seeks to support a comprehensive framework to cover integrated basic areas of mental health, civic activity, and prevention of communicable diseases among children, in cooperation with teachers and students’ families.
For his part, the Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Riyadh Al-Halfi, told Al-Sabah: The strategy was prepared according to the latest recommendations and based on its previous counterparts to enhance the health situation and prevent diseases.
He pointed out that the Ministry was keen to improve health services in cooperation with relevant authorities in order to achieve sustainable goals, pointing out that school health is not limited to being a health priority, but rather represents a continuation of the future of generations and enhancing the physical and psychological health of students, which is reflected in their academic achievement.
Al-Halfi added that the previous strategy yielded good results and contributed to improving health services and student safety while adhering to international health standards.
In turn, the Director of the School Health Division at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Arwa Abdul Khaleq, told Al-Sabah: “A vision has been developed for the current strategy, which is a school community capable of reaching full development potential and an environment that enhances health and controls diseases and violence. It also aims to create a school community that enjoys a safe and clean healthy environment to ensure effective teaching and learning, provide preventive and therapeutic services to students, and provide safe water, in addition to enhancing students’ and teachers’ knowledge of school health, improving nutrition, physical education, and mental health, and providing students with the necessary skills and values.”
For her part, Director of the Reproductive Health and School Health Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Kholoud Awda, told Al-Sabah: The Ministry launched the first campaign for school health during the current year, as teams of dentists, pharmacists, technicians and health professionals were formed to visit schools to raise awareness and educate about communicable diseases and care for healthy food.
She pointed out that 4,840 health teams were formed, while the number of schools visited during the campaign exceeded 30,000 schools, while the number of students examined from the first grade of primary school to the first grade of middle school reached more than 5 million and 987 male and female students.
Awda noted the ministry’s intention to open 424 health units in schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, while the ministry is preparing to launch the second campaign of the School Health Week on February 25 of next year, with health teams continuing to visit schools as part of a plan prepared to include 10,594 schools during the current academic year.
