    Dr. Abbas Sharaky, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at Cairo University, revealed new developments in the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, adding: The Renaissance Dam has one eye as the turbines continue to stop.

    [size=45]Sharaqi said on his personal Facebook page that the fifth and final storage ended on September 5 at a level of 638 m, with a total storage of 60 billion m3, and only two meters remain until the level of the middle passage on which a bridge is being built to connect the two sides of the dam.[/size]

    [size=45]He added: Since then, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Lake has been stable in terms of level and stock, and this is controlled by opening the upper spillway gates. Initially, 3 gates were opened, and with the decrease in rainfall, there were two gates on 4, then one gate on November 19, until today, November 29, 2024.[/size]

    [size=45]He continued: Four turbines were installed (one turbine on February 22, 2022, the second on August 14, 2022, and the other two on August 24, 2024. The first two turbines operated intermittently, working for a week and stopping for months, and currently the four turbines have only operated for a few days during the last three months.[/size]
    [size=45]Sharaki pointed out that with the end of the rainy season this year, the daily water revenue at the Renaissance Dam decreased to about 60 million m3, and this quantity must pass either through the turbines or through the upper spillway gates. With the continued shutdown of the four turbines, one gate (eye) was kept open, and in the event that the turbines return to operation, the daily revenue will increase according to the operating hours by pumping additional quantities from the Renaissance Dam Lake’s stock.[/size]
