    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP Raed Al-Maliki confirmed today, Friday, November 29, 2023, that "all means and options are legitimate and available for Iraq to protect its internal and external security" with the escalation of fighting in northern Syria between armed groups and Syrian forces.
Al-Maliki said in a tweet on his account on the (X) platform: “The security and stability of Syria is an integral part of the security of Iraq, and therefore all means and options are legitimate for Iraq to protect its internal and external security.”
He stressed that "some regional parties must realize the danger of their new game, as it will only serve the Zionist entity."
Al-Maliki added, "Iraq is now stronger than ever and will not be intimidated by anything."
Since Wednesday, armed factions have been launching a large-scale attack on Syrian forces’ control sites in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib governorates, and have taken control of some villages amidst a large displacement of residents.
Commenting on the events, the military spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief, Major General Yahya Rasool, said in a televised statement on Friday afternoon, "Securing the Iraqi borders completely is one of our priorities."
He added that "the borders with the Syrian neighbor, especially in the northeastern regions of Syria, are secure and fortified, and there are sectors of the Border Forces Command equipped with the latest weapons and equipment, as well as tight fortifications in addition to monitoring the borders via drones," indicating that "behind the Border Forces are the sectors of the Iraqi army to secure these areas, and the armed forces have continuous monitoring operations and the borders are largely secured and fortified."
He pointed out that "the intelligence services are monitoring any movement of terrorist gangs, and if they try to attack or reach the Iraqi borders, there will be a firm and strong response."
