    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The Ministry of Electricity announced today, Sunday, the success of reducing the tariff price for importing gas from Turkmenistan, noting that the agreement to supply Turkmen gas is in its final stages.[/rtl]
[rtl]The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said: "The increase in demand for electricity consumption due to the drop in temperatures requires providing greater generating capacities to ensure the stability of electricity supplies," indicating that "the halt in pumping Iranian gas to Baghdad, the Middle Euphrates governorates and the central regions has led to the limitation of the loads of some generating units in a number of stations, which has led to the system losing more than 5,500 megawatts, which greatly affects the hours of electricity supply."[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that "there are a number of generating units that are currently undergoing periodic maintenance programs in preparation for the upcoming winter or summer peak load season," noting that "this maintenance requires a temporary shutdown in some stations, in addition to maintenance work on the Iranian side that requires stopping the gas pumping for 15 days, and therefore, the system may be exposed to a shortage in electrical supplies as a result of these factors."[/rtl]
[rtl]Musa stated that “the Ministry of Electricity has ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Oil to compensate for the loss of gas by providing alternative fuel to operate some stations, but the problem lies in the fact that some stations only operate on gas, and thus the absence of imported gas and the insufficiency of national gas affects the stations’ ability to operate fully.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He stressed that "the ministry was able to reach an agreement with the Turkmen side to supply gas to Iraq, where negotiations were successfully held to reduce the tariff price, and an agreement was reached on the mechanism for paying gas through the Iranian pipelines reaching Iraq." [/rtl]
[rtl]“This agreement has already been signed, but it requires the completion of some procedures such as opening bank credits and securing a financial payment in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision. The initial payment of funds has already been secured, and this is currently being coordinated with the Ministry of Finance and the relevant authorities,” he added, adding: “Once these procedures are completed, Turkmen gas will be supplied as a first stage, which will contribute to significantly improving the situation.”[/rtl]
[rtl]The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity called on citizens to "rationalize the consumption of unnecessary devices, with the aim of controlling electrical loads in these difficult circumstances, especially in light of the presence of factors beyond the control of the ministry, such as the cessation of Iranian gas."[/rtl]
[rtl]Regarding the provision of electricity in different regions, he pointed out that “the matter differs from one governorate to another, as some stations in some governorates depend on national gas, while others depend on local fuel. There are also stations in certain regions that depend on imported gas, and when there is a shortage in this gas, some imbalances occur in the level of provision.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He explained that "the level of electrical equipment varies from one governorate to another, and from one region to another, as the efficiency of the distribution network and the extent of faults affect the equipment. Some regions enjoy good equipment, while some regions suffer from a decline in equipment. However, in general, and with the increase in loads, ensuring the availability of sufficient gas and fuel to operate the stations is essential to meet the needs of citizens."[/rtl]
