Parliamentary demands for official clarification of internet outage in western Anbar amid border tensions

The head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, Zahra Al-Bajari, called on the Ministry of Communications to provide an explanation regarding the cutting of internet service in the western Anbar regions, in light of the escalating tensions on the border with Syria.
Al-Bujari said, “After receiving numerous complaints from internet agents in the western Anbar region, especially in the Qaim district, regarding the cutting off of internet service in those areas, we demand that the Ministry of Communications clarify the truth of this procedure clearly and explicitly.”
She added, "The ministry is required to submit a statement explaining the reasons for cutting off this vital service, especially in the Iraqi-Syrian border area, at a time when the border is witnessing escalating tensions on the other side."
Al-Bujari also wondered “whether this measure was taken in coordination with the Iraqi security services and the Communications and Media Commission, and about the reasons for taking it at this sensitive time.”
She continued: “We call on the Prime Minister to intervene immediately to put an end to these measures that may contribute to escalating tension in a governorate that is considered one of the most sensitive areas,” indicating that “the current situation requires the concerted efforts of all to protect the national security of the Republic of Iraq and avoid any steps that may increase the risks facing the country.”
Many activists and citizens in western Anbar appealed to the relevant authorities, demanding clarification of the reasons that led to the interruption of internet service in the region.
This outage comes at a sensitive time, as tensions are escalating on the border with Syria, raising questions about the connection between this measure and the security situation in the region.
Activists believe that cutting off the internet hinders communication between residents and contributes to creating a state of confusion in light of the current circumstances. They believe that transparency in this matter is necessary to avoid any interpretations that may affect the stability of social and economic conditions.
